Today we (me, Kelsey, and Jenner) visited Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. This was a change of pace from our happy-go-lucky mode of traveling over the past four weeks, but we felt it was very important. Sachsenhausen was built as a model for many of the other camps, and was unique in the face that it is built so close to a large city. During the 1936 Summer Olympics (held in Berlin), the SS felt this was the perfect location to hide what was truly going on. We used Sandeman's for this day trip (is anyone surprised at this by now?) Our guide, George, did a fantastic job sharing information about each site in the camp and educating us about the horrifying things that happened there.
After our tour, we took the train back to Berlin. The three of us got Thai food from Goldenes Dreiek (recommended by George). After, we decompressed our day with beers on the boat.
