We spent our second day in Salzburg on a Sound of Music tour, visiting some of the locations used in filming the movie. First, we went to the the back of the Von Trapp villa (the front was filmed at another house - yep, they used two!). We also got to visit the gazebo where Liesl sang "Sixteen going on Seventeen". I learned that some of the scenes from the inside had to be filmed in a recreated gazebo in Hollywood so they had more room for the set and dance number. We also visited the town of Mondsee, where the Basilica St. Michael is located. It was here (the interior) that they filmed Maria and Captain von Trapp's wedding. Our route passed a number of lakes (seemingly fitting, as we were in the "Lake District"). We took a short stop at Wolfgangsee for some photographs of the amazing views.
For both ease and guarantee of good food, we decided to eat dinner at our hostel tonight. I got Weinerschnitzel and French fries and it was fantastic.
