After all the talk about Berlin's recent history, we set off on a trip to Potsdam - home to the kings and kaisers of the Prussian Empire. Our guide took us through the baroque streets that have been beautifully restored, and showed us around Sanssouci Palace (and park), the Cecilienhof (Site of the 1945 Potsdam Conference), and many other unique buildings. He did a great job educating us about the more "overlooked" German history, such as the four generations of kings (including the Soldier King and Frederick the Great), and the Cold War Spy-Swap Bridge - which I personally found rather intriguing. I would highly recommend this trip to any one visiting to Berlin, as it really helps you understand how Germany came to be. Plus, the gardens are marvelous.
For dinner, we tried out this awesome Indian restaurant, Amar. It was super reasonably priced - and included a welcome drink, unlimited rice, and a mango lassi "shot" before paying our bill. They also didn't charge us for tap water or think it was weird that we requested it. The dining room itself is also really nicely decorated. On my list as of my favorite places in Berlin!
