Our walking tour, provided by Sandemans, yet again, was great. Kathryn was incredibly informative and explained things in ways that even I understood. We saw the Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial (specifically the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe), the site of Hitler’s bunker (and the place of his ultimate suicide), the Empty Library (a memorial for the books the Nazis burned), Checkpoint Charlie, Humboldt University, and the Berlin Wall.
Following the conclusion of our tour, we visited the open air museum called Topography of Terror. It showcases the rise of Naziism all the way through the end of World War II in a timeline format.
To finish our day, we wandered around searching for food. We encountered a street food market that is held every Thursday called Wochenmarkt. I got a ramenburger - it was everything you could want and more. I could have eaten 6 more except the ice cream was calling my name.
When we got back to our hostel, there was a new name tag on one of the bunks. We recognized the name as someone who graduated from high school with us, but thought the chances were too slim (even though we knew that he was on a euro-trip as well). Kelsey tweeted at Jenner (the guy we graduated with). It was him, and he told us he was right outside on the deck of the boat. So we went out and sat around catching up with him. It was incredibly refreshing to see a familiar face and reminisce on our high school days!
